8th Jena Cross-Cut 2020 – Annoucement

Tournament
– 5 rounds MacMahon
– drawing according to EGF rating
– handicap reduced by 2
– Japanese rules
– 1 hour basic time
– byoyomi 20 stones/5 min
– 7 Komi

– in case of being late at your board: clocks will be started by a tournament official 5 min after pairing announcements
– after 15 min, the game will be declared a loss for the missing player
– a tournament official will try to find a new opponent for the waiting player in order to avoid that games are decided by defaul

– when participating in the tournament, you take note that results and photos will be published online and registered at E.G.D. (European Go Database)

*** Hygiene measures ***
– Persons with cold symptoms are not allowed to participate.
– During the whole tournament, a mouth-nose-cover is compulsory – also during the games and within the common room. Only exception: during the meals (there will be an area designated for meals where only a restricted number of persons can stay at the same time). People without mouth-nose-cover will not be allowed to enter the building.
– Writing of a contact diary starting 1 week prior to the tournament.
– Desinfection or hand wash prior to every game and game discussion.
– Windows will regularly be opened in all rooms, so please bring something warm to put on along with you (it can be rather cold outside).
Registration via our online form is compulsory until 27th of October.
– There will be no cash at the tournament side. This results in the following measures which are decribed in more detail below: bank transfer of entry fee and money for meal coupons and order on Friday night (if desired).
– If you want to take notes during your games or to participate in the Tsumego competition, please bring your own pen as we will not provide any this year.
No alcoholic drinks allowed at the tournament site.

Registration
*** It is compulsory to register via the online form until 27th of October and the registration becomes valid when the entry fee was transferred (there will be no cash at the tournemant place and you won’t get the possibility to pay by credit card at the tournament side). ***

Entry fee
*** As part of our hygiene concept, there will be no cash at the tournament side this year. Therefore, we ask you to transfer your entry fee prior to the tournament. Once you filled in the registration form, you will receive an email including all information concerning the bank transfer.
If the tournament cannot take place due to official rules or if you cannot participate for any reason, the WHOLE amount will be returned to you until 9th of November the latest.***

– Tombola: for every defeat, a lot with your name is added to the pool (max. 1 price per person)

* Notes about price giving
– „1st place“ means the one player who reached the best place within the overall standings, participated in all 5 rounds, and won at least 3 games.
– If there is an overlap (a player wins in more than 1 category), the price of the category mentioned further down in the list will be given to the 2nd place of this catergory (we want that as many participants as possible will gain a price)
-> Example: Player A becomes 1st place within 2 categories: „students“ and „1-9 kyu“. In this case, player A gains the price for the best student but, in the  category „1-9 kyu“, the 2nd place gains the price money.

Accomodation
Private accommodation possible but limited (definitely pre-register until 27.10.2020!). Please bring sleeping bag and sleeping mat along with you.
In other respects, there are two youth hostels and several hotels and pensions in Jena. They are all easily accessible with public transport or by foot (about 30 min from the tournament site to the city centre). You can contact the tournament committee (go-in-jena@gmx.de) for help with bookings etc.

Catering
We will provide food and drinks at the tournement side but due to the hygiene concept not as a buffet but similar to a canteen serving counter.
Unfortunately, we can not offer any breakfast on Sunday.

*** As we cannot use cash at the tournement side, you have to purchase meal coupons worth of 0,50 € each prior to the tournament. When filling in the registration form, you will be ask how many coupons you would like to receive and the equivalent amount has to be payed together with the entry fee by bank transfer. At the tournament day, you will get your meal coupons at the registration desk.
You have to order your meal coupons beforehand, it will not be possible to purchase additional coupons at the tournament side. ***

Food prices will be between 0,50 € and 4,00 €, for example:
– 0,50 € to 2,00 €: sandwiches, cake, rolls, waffles, chocolate bars, coffee, tea, water, softdrinks, …
– 2,00 € to 3,00 €: side dishes
– 4,00 €: lunch (salad, chilli con carne, …)

Specials and side events

Seminar on Friday:
We welcome Kim Youngsam (8d) as our special guest. On Friday at 18:30, he will give a seminar for all Kreuzschnitt participants arriving on Friday. The topic has yet to be revealed. Participation is free of charge but you are welcome to donate towards supporting our teacher Youngsam and/or the tournament.
*** Catering for the evening: for those who want, we will order from the ‚Asien Imbiss Jena‘. Please choose what you would like to order from their homepage and indicate your choice when filling in the registration form. You will be ask to pay the respective amount together with your entry fee by bank transfer. ***

Tsumego-Marathon:
Once again, we have lots of Tsumego problems for you. The aim is to solve as many problems as possible. There will be prices for the most solved problems in three different groups: double digit kyu (DDK), single digit kyu (SDK) and dan (DAN).
*** Please bring your own pen if you want to participate in the Tsumego contest as we cannot provide any this year. ***

Rengo night on Saturday:
Sponsored by JIGS. Saturday night at 8 p.m.: 3 rounds, 30 min sudden-death, 6.5 komi, full handicap. The first three places will be awarded with JIGS vouchers. Registration for the rengo tournament will be on site.

Card and board games (other than Go):
A big box with card- and board-games gives perfect opportunity to overcome the gaps between the rounds and have some fun! 🙂
