From 16 October to 18 October 2026, we invite you to the Jenaer Kreuzschnitt: 5 games, a seminar and game reviews with Andrii Kravets (3p), a Tsumego Marathon, and a full Go tournament weekend in the heart of Jena.

In addition to the tournament games, you can look forward to a varied side programme with a seminar, game reviews, live commentary, and a Tsumego Marathon.

🎓 Seminar

On Friday evening, Andrii Kravets (3p) will give a seminar for all Kreuzschnitt participants. Participation is included in the entry fee.

🧠 Game reviews

On Saturday and Sunday, Andrii will review your tournament games and provide live commentary on selected games.

🔥 Tsumego Marathon

During the tournament, you can solve tsumego and compete for special prizes in the DDK, SDK, and DAN categories.

🏆 Prizes

Of course, there will be more than just fame and honour to play for. In addition to the prizes for the top players, there will be several special prizes, material prizes, and a raffle.

The prize money listed below is intended as a guideline and depends on the number of participants. If there are fewer than 50 participants, the prize money may have to be reduced.

There will be 20 € for each of the following categories:

In addition, there will be several material prizes:

  • 4:1 and 5:0 scores

🎁 Raffle

Even losses may pay off: For every lost game, one ticket with your name will be added to the raffle.

  • Maximum one raffle prize per person
Show prize allocation rules

Only players who have played all 5 rounds and won at least 3 games are eligible for prize money.

Each person can receive a maximum of one cash prize. If a player qualifies in several categories, the prize money in the lower-listed category will be awarded to the next eligible player in that category.

Example: Player A finishes 1st among students and is also the best player in the 1–10 kyu category. In this case, Player A receives the student prize. The 1–10 kyu prize is awarded to the next eligible player in that category.

The venue is located in central Jena. There are many options for getting food nearby. In addition, there will be an opportunity to buy affordable lunch, snacks and drinks directly at the venue.

🛏️ Accommodation

If you are coming from outside Jena, there are several options for staying overnight.

Private accommodation

Private accommodation with Go players in Jena is available only to a limited extent.

  • Please bring a sleeping mat and sleeping bag
  • Places are limited

Hotels and youth hostels

Alternatively, there are youth hostels, guesthouses, and hotels in Jena. Many accommodations are easy to reach by tram or bus, or are within walking distance of the venue.


⏱️ Late arrival rules

To keep the tournament fair and on schedule, the following rules apply:

After 5 minutes

5 minutes after the pairings have been posted, the tournament directors will start all clocks.

After 15 minutes

If players are still missing, the tournament directors will try to find alternative pairings to avoid wins by default where possible.

Not present

If a player has not arrived after 15 minutes and no alternative pairing can be found, the game is lost by default.


📸 Results, photos, and E.G.D.

Results and photos from the tournament will be published online. Results will also be submitted to the E.G.D. — European Go Database.
